Edale

Beautiful Edale is undoubtedly the best village in the Peak District (well, we think so anyway…). Famous as the start of the Pennine Way, perhaps the UK’s best-known long distance walking path, the small village is made up of ‘booths’ (farmsteads) strung along the valley. It’s a tranquil corner of the Peak District where the walking is unsurpassed, the views are incredible and the adventures are endless.

Rowlands Farm lies in Barber Booth at the foot of Mam Tor. Edale’s pubs and cafés are a lovely 25-minute walk from the cottages.

Views

Beautiful and dramatic in equal measure, Edale and its valley offer stunning views in every direction. Rowlands Farm sits at the head of the valley, with uninterrupted views of Mam Tor and Kinder Scout, distant waterfalls, craggy rock formations, paragliders floating silently above the hills, wildflower meadows in the summer and magical winterscapes when the nights draw in. All from your cottage windows.

Walking

The Edale Valley is one of the best places for walking in the UK. With Mam Tor and the Great Ridge on one side and the wild Kinder Plateau on the other, plus countless footpaths and hundreds of acres of open access land, walkers are spoilt for choice. Rowlands Farm is wonderfully placed for walkers, with myriad footpaths right on the doorstep.

Adventure

You only need to leave the beaten track a little in the Edale Valley to find waterfalls to climb, boulders to scramble over, rivers to paddle in and deep pools for a spot of wild swimming. Cyclists will be in their element here, with famously challenging road cycling (Team Sky are often seen training here) and some great mountain biking routes. The valley is also famous for its fell running, with several races throughout the year and loads of exhilarating routes for runners of all standards.

Eating and drinking

The central part of Edale, Grindsbrook Booth, is a lovely 25-minute walk from Rowlands Farm. Here you will find the village church, two pubs, two cafés, the small village shop and the Moorland Centre (a Peak District visitor centre and shop). The village also offers great fish n chips at weekends and wonderful wood-fire baked pizzas in the summer.
